Is the Stimulus Spending Working?

Read ArticleArticle Source: Gazette.com

With the economy showing some slight signs of life, liberal pundits are crowing that the Obama administration's stimulus package is working. Yet anyone who believes that — as one Internet joke has put it — filling up buckets of water from the deep end of the pool and pouring them into the shallow end will ultimately raise the overall water level betrays a perilously limited understanding of economics.

Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

We'll know how well Cash for Clunkers did when we get the October sales figures. I expect new car sales to tank, because anyone who wanted a new car took advantage of the generous taxpayer handouts (financed by our communist chinese friends). I expect used car sales to tank also, since they crushed them all.

If I am not mistaking both GM and Chrysler sales are currently down 40%. I have no ideal why the media is not pointing this out. I know China is, they are concerned about continuing to finance our debt without a plan to reduce it.

The current administration seems to have Vegas fever. I guess they figure if they continue to spend like gambling they are bound to get lucky with a financial win.

Yes. I have been looking at Austrian economics, courtesy of the Mises.org (http://mises.org/).

I agree with their view of economics. This stimulus spending is only hurting us in the long run.

Wow. I just re-read my post. I did not mean my "Yes" to indicate that the stimulus WAS working... I meant "Yes", I agree with the article that it is not. Sorry for the confusion.
